Amanda Howard named to NAIA All-America Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2016 All-America teams on Tuesday.

Campbellsville University's Amanda Howard earned the honor for women's soccer.

Howard, a junior from Harrodsburg, Ky., is the only two-time NAIA All-American in program history after earning First-Team honors last season. She finished the season with 90 saves and a 0.811 save percentage, only allowing 21 goals.

She led the way for the Lady Tigers who earned a season record of 11-8-2 and a Mid-South Conference record of 2-4-1. She was also named All-MSC First Team, Academic All-MSC, and given MSC Player of the Week honors three times this season.

In a conference matchup with Cumberland University, Howard collected a season-high 11 saves. For her career, she currently has 348 saves and a 37-17 record. In addition, 27 of those wins have been shutouts.

Howard led the Lady Tigers defensively through the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Tournament, finishing in the semifinal match in Kissimmee, Fla.

"This honor is very well deserved for Amanda," said coach Thom Jones. "After being the programs first First-Team All-American last year, she had a lot of hype coming into 2016. But she lived up to that and had a great season in goal. She makes saves that many goalkeepers in our league and even the country would not. Amanda kept us in games and that's all we can ask for. We are very excited for off-season workouts to start and for 2017 to get here."

Athletes for the All-America teams are nominated by their coaches and voted on by the NAIA All-America Soccer All-America Selection Committee.
