Scantland is named MSC Women's Golfer of the Year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For the second time in her career, Campbellsville's Cassidy Scantland was named the Mid-South Conference Golfer of the Year, officials announced at the post-round awards ceremony.

Scantland, a junior from Greensburg, Ky., is a two-time MSC Golfer of the Year recipient after picking up the honor her freshman season.

The Golfer of the Year award is based on the three MSC golf events throughout the year and the two highest scores are tossed out.

Even though she did not have her best outing at the MSC Championship this week, Scantland won the Fall and Spring Tournament hosted at Elk's Creek and Campbellsville Country Clubs to out-pace University of the Cumberlands Constanze Sieker.

Her low round of the year thus far came in the MSC Fall Tournament and NCCAA National Championship with a one-under 71.

In addition to the two MSC wins Scantland picked up a third victory at the University of Pikeville Spring Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Club. The three wins this season move her program-record to 11 in her three seasons at Campbellsville.

Off the course, Scantland was also named the MSC Champions of Character for 2016. The Champions of Character is a NAIA initiative that recognizes athletes who mirror the core values — integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership - see separate story HERE

Scantland and the Lady Tigers will now await their fate to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship. The national tournament will be hosted for the second straight year at The Savannah Quarters in Pooler, Ga. on May 17-20.
