Henestrosa is CU's first women's tennis NAIA All-America

Anita Henestrosa gained another highlight this week for her freshman year at Campbellsville University. The Bern, Switzerland native was named a NAIA All-American for women's tennis singles play, becoming the first Lady Tiger to earn the honor for women's tennis, according to the NAIA archive.

Henestrosa posted an 11-1 singles record and 7-5 doubles record through the season, earning the Mid-South Conference honors for Freshman of the Year and Co-Player of the Year. She did not receive a national ranking until May 7, breaking the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Top 50 rankings at No. 7. The final season rankings are scheduled for June 4.

"She's got to be one of the most decorated girls that have ever been here, especially for a freshman," CU head coach Kyle Caven said. "It's been great for recruiting. We've got four or five girls coming in this fall that are really going to help the program. Anita helped navigate us. We're just a couple of players away from being a good team."

Through the year, Henestrosa defeated three players ranked in the Top 25 nationally. She is the top-ranked player in the ITA East Region.
