Scantland named NAIA Second Team All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Campbellsville University's Cassidy Scantland topped off an already impressive freshman year by being named as a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women's Golf Second Team All-America, as selected by the NAIA-Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America Committee.

Scantland's 77.62 scoring average ranked 13th in the nation, and led the Mid-South Conference. Her play helped the Lady Tiger team achieve a No. 27 national ranking.

"She worked extremely hard throughout the year and all the work she put in paid off for her," said coach Brent Vernon.

"As a freshman she has accomplished so very much and she most definitely will be playing these next three years with a target on her back, especially within the conference," Vernon continued. "She knows the work that lies ahead to reach her ultimate goal for herself and our team and I expect nothing but improvement from her. She has to be a leader for our group and she will, I'm sure, continue to excel both on and off the course."

The Greensburg, Ky. native completed the 2013-14 season with six tournament wins and having finished no higher than 10th in any tournament, and that was at nationals. She was only the second Lady Tiger to ever qualify for nationals, following the lead of Lauren Scholl in 2005-06.

A total of 46 student-athletes were honored, with 15 individuals being named to first and third teams, while 16 individuals were named to the second team.

National champion Oklahoma City led all teams with five individuals earning All-America honors. Bellevue (Neb.), British Columbia, Northwood (Fla.) and William Woods (Mo.) each had four golfers achieve All-America status, while national runner-up SCAD Savannah (Ga.) had three individuals recognized.

Fifteen individuals are making at least their second All-America appearance. Third Team honoree Jamie Palermo of William Woods is the lone four-time All-American, having been a First Team selection in 2011 and 2012 and a Second Team member in 2013.

Scantland was joined on the Second Team by the University of the Cumberlands Liz Stephens and Bri-ann Tokariwski.
