BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Campbellsville's Mhairi Fyfe took one more step in etching her name as the most decorated Lady Tiger to ever suit up for the maroon and grey. Fyfe picked up the the most prestigious award given out by the Mid-South Conference and was named Player of the Year, officials announced tonight at the annual banquet in the National Corvette Museum.
"I am very proud of Mhairi," said CU coach Thom Jones. "She really deserves this award and has showed she is one of the top players in the nation. I am glad the coaches recognized that and voted for her."
Fyfe, a junior from Livingston, Scotland, led the Mid-South Conference in scoring with 25 goals this season. She shattered the career scoring mark of 53 goals set by Jessica Ralph from 2010-2013 and now has 63.
Her 25 goals this season is also a single-season best. She eclipsed last years mark which was set at 24 in the final regular season win over Cumberland University on Oct. 30.
Fyfe is the first Lady Tiger to be named MSC Player of the Year and was also named to the all-conference and academic all-conference teams. She ranks No. 3 in the country in game-winning goals with seven and No. 4 in total goals and goals per game (1.47).
"This is a pretty cool award to win," said Fyfe. "But this award doesn't just reflect my play, it also reflects the play of my teammates throughout the season. It's been a fun season so far but we aren't done yet. Now we're ready to compete and go win a conference tournament."
Campbellsville has had a season for the books, winning 16 games and only falling once – which happened to be the No. 1 team in the nation Lindsey Wilson College. The Lady Tigers moved into the Top 15 in the NAIA Polls for the first time in the Oct. 21st edition - CU now sits at exactly No. 15 after yesterday's ballot was complete.
Fyfe has helped the Lady Tigers score 65 goals compared to only allowing opponents to score six.
Campbellsville is the two-seed in the Mid-South Conference tournament, which starts tomorrow evening. The Lady Tigers square off with Shawnee State University at 8:30 p.m. ET in the MSC quarterfinals. Fans can watch the game live on the MSC Sports Network – HERE.Â
