Jacqueline Roof repeats as Mid-South Conference Softball Player of the Year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For the second straight year, Campbellsville's Jacqueline Roof is named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year, officials announced at the annual awards banquet on Thursday night.

Roof, a junior from Paducah, Ky., earned the Player of the Year honor the past two seasons and was named Freshman of the Year before that in 2014. She is only the third student-athlete to ever repeat as Player of the Year. The other being Georgetown's Jennifer Tarplee in 2008 and 2009 and CU's Bailey Dillender in 2010 and 2011.

Overall, Roof, Bailey Dillender, Lauren Wathen, Amanda Nuyt and Emma Napier have combined to win the award seven times.

She has led Campbellsville's offensive and defensive efforts the past three seasons. This year, Roof is hitting .411 with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs from her leadoff spot in the batting order. The home run and RBI count leads the team, as does her 17 doubles, 60 hits, 52 runs scored, 20 walks, and 12 stolen bases. The 12 swipes are a single-season high for her career.

Her 47 RBIs in 46 games matches her total from last season in 51 contests. Her 17 doubles are three away from tying Emma Napier's mark set in 2012.

Roof has recorded 20 multi-hit games, with seven of them being three hits or more. In addition, she has ONLY struck out seven times this season, which is a season low.

"Jacqueline is just an extremely special player who possesses an unbelievable work ethic," said coach Shannon Wathen. "She's a great teammate and has an unprecedented desire to get better every day at practice. But she will be the first to tell you that this award is also credit to her teammates."

Inside the MSC, Roof's .411 batting average ranks second, while she is second in slugging percentage (.781), first in runs scored (52), sixth in hits (60), second in RBIs (47), first in doubles (17), first in home runs (11), first in total bases (114) and fifth in on-base-percentage (.492).

Defensively, Roof has manned shortstop the last three seasons and has showed off her canon deep in the six-hole on numerous occasions. She ranks No. 9 in the country with 121 assists and No. 14 with 2.6 assists per game.

Overall throughout her career, Roof is hitting .397 with 36 home runs and 128 RBIs. Her .397 career average is also a career program record, as Emma Napier sits in second with a career average of .390. Roof's 36 home runs sits her in a tie for third-place on the all-time list with Kristin Benton. She has walked 58 times and struck out only 17 times in 443 at bats. In addition, her career slugging percentage of .734 sits a top the program list.

Campbellsville enters the Mid-South Conference Tournament with a 35-11 record and is the two-seed after finishing the regular season with a 18-4 conference mark.

The Lady Tigers will now look to repeat as Mid-South Conference Tournament champions and open the tourney with Cumberland University at 2 p.m. ET at Michael O. Buchanon Park in Bowling Green.
