Brayden Russell named Mid-South Conference Co-Athlete of the Year

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – For the first time in his career, Campbellsville's Brayden Russell is named the Mid-South Conference Co-Athlete of the Year, officials announced at the awards ceremony upon completion of the track and field championships.

Russell, a sophomore from Lawrenceburg, Ky., earned the award after collecting 28 points for the Tigers in the MSC Championships Apr. 27-29.

Russell shares the honor with freshman DeQuan Robinson of Lindsey Wilson College, who also earned 28 points for his team. This is the second-straight year Campbellsville sported a Co-Athlete of the Year, following Paxton Wiley's honor in the 2016 championships.

Highlighting his championship journey, Russell placed first in high jump clearing 2.04 meters for 10 points, breaking the school record and qualifying for the NAIA Championships with a "B" standard.

He placed fourth in three additional events, grabbing 15 more points for Campbellsville. He ran the 400-meter hurdles in 59.38, cleared 13.14 meters in triple jump and threw 49.70 meters in javelin.

Rounding out his scoring in the championship, Russell placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 17.24.

His season will continue as he competes in the NCCAA Championships in Shawnee, Okla., May 12-13, and the NAIA Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., May 26-27.
