Roof was a double away from the cycle and Quint shines in the circle to seal 6-1 win over Cumberland

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Jacqueline Roof was a double away from hitting for the cycle and Neely Quint tossed a complete-game gem to lead Campbellsville to a 6-1 win over five-seeded Cumberland University in the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

The win improves No. 4 Campbellsville's record to 43-8 overall and the Lady Tigers will now play the winner of Georgetown College – Lindsey Wilson College contest, which was still playing at post time.

Game time tomorrow is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET but weather forecasts are expected to throw a wrench into the tournament once again.

Roof led the Lady Tigers with three hits – a single, triple and home run – while driving in two runs. Rebecca Miller and Alexis Smith tallied two hits each as the top three in the order wen 7-for-10 at the plate, scored three runs and drove in four.

Mid-South Pitcher of the Year Neely Quint tosses a seven-inning three-hitter and struck out three to improve to 26-2 overall.

The second game for both clubs was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings. Campbellsville scratched a run in the third after Miller started a two-out rally and scored on Smith's double to left field.

Leading 1-0, the Lady Tigers scored another single run in the fifth to lead 2-0. Roof started the rally with a one-hopper off the centerfield fence for a triple and scored on Miller's single up the middle.

The sixth inning saw five combined runs scored. Cumberland pushed across its first run on another triple-single combination. Shae Dunn tripled to right field and scored on a hit by Kayla Hoppenjans.

With the lead cut in half, Campbellsville picked up much-needed breathing room. Brianna Scott worked a nine-pitch at bat and walked to leads off the frame. Jordan Ison moved her to second base with a sacrifice bunt and Ryleigh Oldham drove her in with Campbellsville's third triple of the game.

Leading now 3-1, the Lady Tigers scored three two-out runs. Dana Adkins picked up an RBI single up the middle to score Oldham and that set up the big blast. Roof delivered her 10thround tripper of the season on a first-pitch fast ball to give Quint a 6-1 lead moving to the seventh.

Quint, who sat down the first 10 batters she saw today, allowed her only walk with two outs in the seventh before picking up the victory.
