The match-up began as a defensive slugfest, with both units digging their heels in during a completely scoreless first quarter. Campbellsville's defense, anchored by four-tackle performances from
Emani Scott,
Ella LaPointe, and
Timaya Woody, consistently stalled out the Buffaloes' early possessions.
It wasn't until late in the second quarter that the Lady Tigers finally broke the gridlock. With exactly three minutes remaining in the half, sophomore quarterback
Korine Talkington capped off an efficient drive by threading a three-yard touchdown pass to Ava Kelley, giving Campbellsville a 6-0 lead.
However, Milligan managed to steal the momentum just before the break. With only 24 seconds left on the clock, Buffaloes quarterback Bridget Keyser connected with Lilly Rumrill for a 34-yard touchdown strike. A successful one-point conversion gave the visitors a narrow 7-6 advantage heading into the locker room.
Campbellsville came out of the halftime break looking to reclaim control. Following a methodical drive down the field, Talkington found sophomore playmaker
Alex Odom for a 15-yard touchdown pass at the 7:34 mark of the third quarter. While the conversion attempt failed, the score successfully flipped the advantage back to the Lady Tigers at 12-7.
The fourth quarter ultimately belonged to the Buffaloes. Milligan mounted a critical nine-play, 48-yard drive that chewed up nearly five minutes of clock, culminating in an 11-yard touchdown pass from Keyser to Krista Quinn with 6:45 remaining. A successful conversion pushed the Milligan lead to 14-12.
Forced to play catch-up late, the Lady Tigers' offense struggled to find their rhythm in the closing minutes. Milligan capitalized on favorable field position to punch in two more late scores, cementing their 27-12 victory.
