Four Campbellsville University players scored goals as the Lady Tigers picked up their second Mid-South Conference win, 4-1, over the University of Rio Grande on Sunday.
Ashley Corum,
Kelsey Mandel,
Rebekah Carl and
Cassie Yannelli each scored for CU, but many other opportunities were missed, as the Lady Tigers had 27 shots on goal in muddy conditions.
"I've come to the realization we're getting opportunities to score but not finishing, but we still manage to win by two goals or so. It's frustrating, but I'm learning to accept it," CU head coach
Thom Jones said.
Corum, Mandel and Carl each scored in the first half with
Emily Shultz assisting the first goal. CU had 14 shots on goal stopped in the first half by Rio Grande keeper Kaitlyn Schultz. The RedStorm's lone goal came from Erica Feeman in the first half.
Yannelli netted the only goal of the second half when
Laura Swencki slipped a cross right in front of the goal for a quick tap in.
Goalkeeper
Sarah Akers had eight saves for the Lady Tigers.
CU (8-3-1, 2-1 MSC) travels to the University of the Cumberlands (5-5, 3-1 MSC) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. to battle for second place in the Mid-South.
