Laura Swencki scored two goals on Senior Day as the Lady Tigers downed St. Catherine 6-1 Thursday afternoon at home.
Swencki, from Lebanon, Ky., and fellow senior
Lauren Shrader from
Cincinnati were honored by their teammates and coaches before the game.
Swencki, who shares team scoring honors (11 goals) with sophomore
Kelsey Mandel of Louisville, Tenn., scored first about midway of the
first half and again at the 36:55 mark of the second half. That goal
gave CU a 5-0 lead.
Mandel scored twice as well, and assisted on
Cassie Yannelli's goal not even two minutes into the second half. Mandel's second goal was assisted by Yannelli and
Megan Campbell, a sophomore from Central City, Ky., made a pass for Mandel's second goal that gave CU a 6-0 lead. Campbell saw her name show up again in the scorer's book as she took a ball from 40 yards out, dribbled in toe point-blank range and found the left side of the net.
"We're playing with more composure," said coach
Thom Jones, whose team improved to 10-4-1 (3-2 MSC). "We're starting to control the ball better and it's beautiful to watch."
St. Catharine dipped to 6-5 (0-3 MSC).
