Campbellsville University's NAIA soccer season came to a close Friday, falling, 2-1, to West Virginia University Institute of Technology in the Mid-South Conference tournament.
WVU Tech scored its game winner on a corner kick with two minutes remaining in the second overtime, avoiding a penalty kick shootout and advancing to the MSC semifinal.
Cassie Yannelli scored the Lady Tigers' lone goal with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, but WVU Tech evened the score in the 70th minute.
The loss ends the Lady Tigers' NAIA season, as their only chance of advancing to the NAIA national tournament was to win the MSC championship. Campbellsville (11-7-1) awaits the post season announcements for the National Christian College Athletic Association. Though not ranked in the Top 10, CU entered the past week with the ninth-best win percentage in NCCAA Division I soccer.
