Box Score Campbellsville University kicked off a full athletics weekend
Friday with a 3-0 win over the University of Rio Grande. It was the first home
victory and first Mid-South Conference win for the Lady Tigers this season.
"It was good to get some goals at home. Our hard work paid off. Hopefully we
can build of this and put together a string of victories together," CU head
coach Thom Jones said.
Campbellsville collected 18 shots in the game, dominating possession for most
of the game on a rainy night.
A freshman connection put the Lady Tigers on the board in the 34th
minute, as Jessica Ralph assisted Audra Hockenberger's first collegiate goal.
The rain ceased as the goal was scored, but it didn't stay dry long.
Two minutes later, Ralph extended the lead when her shot slipped off the keeper's
hand and into the far side of the net. Ashley Corum recorded the assist. As soon as play resumed after the second goal,
the rain picked up again.
Rain continued through the game, and so did the Lady Tigers' shots. CU had 11
shots in the second half after taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. Ralph grew the
lead to three goals in the 73rd minute after converting a direct
kick from Savannah Stephens into a goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Brandie Hagerman picked up her third shutout of the season
for Campbellsville, collecting three saves. Mara Howell had two saves for Rio.
Campbellsville (4-4, 1-1 MSC) returns to action Tuesday, as it travels to St.
Catharine College for another MSC battle at 3 p.m. ET
