Box Score The Lady Soccer Tigers won their second straight match and moved above
.500 for the first time this season by downing St. Catharine College 6-0
in Springfield on Tuesday.
Campbellsville got two goals each from
Brittany Spicer,
Cassie Yannelli
and
Audra Hockenberger, but it was Spicer's off a corner kick by
Yannelli that proved to be all the Lady Tigers would need.
Playing into a strong headwind much of the first half, coach
Thom Jones said it took awhile for his team to learn to keep the ball on the ground.
"After we calmed down and started passing the ball things kind of fell into place," said Jones. "They started ball chasing and we started passing it, it opened up our offense."
Campbellsville (5-4, 2-1) had nine goals coming in to Tuesday's encounter, but added six more to the season total.
"That was good," said Jones. "We've been struggling a bit getting it in the net."
Campbellsville had the luxury of playing just about everyone on the travel roster.
Spicer's first goal came at the 13-minute mark and she added her second 19 minutes later when she took a rebound off a shot against the post by
Bailey McDonough. Those goals gave CU a 2-0 halftime lead and then in the second half, after a 17-minute drought, the Lady Tigers closed it out with four more goals.
Yannelli booted one in off a Hockenberger assist at the 28:16 mark and then Hockenberger and Yannelli netted goals at the 21:26, 17:27 and 14:30 marks.
Yannelli and Hockenberger each had two assists.
Campbellsville returns home Thursday for a 7 p.m. matchup with Cincinnati Christian University.
