Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville University women's soccer team had yet another shutout on Tuesday night, Oct. 16 against Bluefield College. The final score was 4-0, making the game the seventh win and shutout of the season.
In the ninth minute of the first half, Rams goalkeeper Victoria Duncan was drawn out of the goal in an attempt to stop a CU cross. Senior midfielder Cassie Yannelli beat the goalie in a foot race to it, though, and quickly passed it behind her to fellow senior Rebecka Carl. The midfielder unleashed a hard kick from 30 yards out that found its way to the right side of the net, for a Lady Tiger goal.
It seemed the second half was going to remain scoreless as the ball continued to bounce back and forth between the teams for the first 38 minutes. A flurry of late offense finally took hold of CU, though, as sophomore Alex Shaffer dribbled the ball to the football 10-yard line and fired her second career goal.
The midfielder wasn't finished yet. With only one minute left, Jessica Ralph crossed the ball high to Shaffer who headed it to the right of Duncan for another CU goal, taking the score to 3-0.
The game looked like it was coming to a close until Ralph decided to get a goal of her own. The forward interupted the final count down with a hard kick with only four seconds remaining on the clock, scoring her 30th career goal.
"I'm very pleased with the victory and that my girls never gave up," said head coach Thom Jones. "They scored three goals in less than four minutes. I'm very pleased."
Rachel Veatch, Emily Shultz, and Yannelli had one shot-on-goal a piece.
The next Lady Tigers soccer game will be Saturday, Oct. 20 on the road at the University of Rio Grande. Start time will be 5 pm EDT. To follow the team, go to www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
