Campbellsville defeats St. Catharine Patriots, 2-0

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville women's soccer team seems unstoppable lately. The Lady Tigers won their third straight Mid-South Conference game Tuesady night against St. Catharine College, putting the team at 3-1 in conference play.

"It was nice to get another conference win under our belt, especially a shutout," said Coach Thom Jones. "I wasn't very happy with the way we played, though. But sometimes you have to take the win and enjoy it."

The first half was rather uneventful, neither team being able to score. CU took a total of four shots, three of which were on goal, while St. Catharine was only able to manage one.

CU didn't stay silent for long, though. In the first minute of the second half, the energy of the Lady Tigers escalated as freshman forward Kailene Allis tipped a ball in the air to junior forward Jessica Ralph. Ralph bodied the ball in just over Patriot goalie Lindsey Vinson to give the team a 1-0 lead. The assist was Allis' career first, and came within her first minutes of varsity play.

With 15 minutes left in the period, senior midfielder Cassie Yannelli fired an insurance goal past Vinson after an assist from junior midfielder, Toria Alsip. The goal was Yannelli's fourth of the season and 29th of her career. Alsip's assist was her second overall.

St. Catharine managed four more shots in the second 45 minutes, but only two on goal, which couldn't make their way past junior keeper Brandie Hagerman

The victory puts the Lady Tigers on a three-game winning streak, all against MSC opponents. CU is now 5-4-1 on the season.

Campbellsville will return home Friday against Trevecca University at 7 p.m. EDT.
