Box Score ST. CATHARINE, Ky. – After tying its longest winning streak in the past seven years, Campbellsville (9-4-1, 5-3 MSC) came out flat as St. Catherine College (12-4, 5-3 MSC) shut down their offensive attack, winning 2-0.
St. Catherine got on the board when Courtney Anderson received a pass from Morgan Ludwig. With a defensive breakdown by Campbellsville, Anderson put the Patriots up 1-0 just 15 minutes into the game.
Campbellsville struggled to find any offensive rhythm as Coach Thom Jones pleaded with his team to get wider and play the whole field.
The Patriots packed the box on defense to keep the Lady Tigers out of the middle of the field. Campbellsville countered with a wider offensive attack to try and spread everything out, but was unsuccessful.
St. Catherine extended its first half lead witha second goal, this one by Macy Higdon, sister of CU men's player Alex Higdon, chipped the ball over goalkeeper Brandie Hagerman.
The last goal came with only 50 seconds left in the first half, and that set Jones on fire during his half-time speech.
"We came out flat and did not play with any heart today," said Jones.
Bailey McDonough took her leadership role to another level as the senior captain rallied the troops before the start of the second half but the Lady Tigers response was too late.
Campbellsville came out with nine shots in the second half compared to the Patriots three. St. Catherine goalkeeper, Lindsey Vinson, kept coming up with save after save to keep the score 2-0.
"I tried to get the girls to play wider and create space," said Jones. "When we created space in the second half our shots were not falling and it was too late."
The Lady Tigers dropped their first game in seven tries and are now tied for third place in the MSC but St. Catherine owns the tie breaker if it is needed. Campbellsville will return to the friendly confines of Finley Stadium for senior night on Saturday, Oct. 16, against Bryan College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and the senior activities start at 7:00.
