ATHENS, Tenn. — Campbellsville University women's soccer dropped its first game of the 2014 season Saturday afternoon at Athens Regional Park. Tennessee Wesleyan College scored single goals in each half to defeat the Lady Tigers, 2-0.
Campbellsville (3-1) couldn't get its offense going against the Wildcats. Tennessee Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute after a goal by Amy Cooley and held strong down the stretch.
The Lady Tigers responded with shot after shot but none could find the back of the net. Tennessee Wesleyan goalkeepers Taylor Young and Jaimee Moreland split time in the net and picked up five saves combined.
The Wildcats extended the lead in the final minute with a goal by Alexis Dalberth.
The Lady Tigers led the second half with nine total shots compared to eight for TWU. The Wildcats led in that category, 13-12 for the game.
CU goalkeeper Amanda Howard was coming off back-to-back weeks being named the NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week and picked up seven saves in her first loss.
Campbellsville will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 11 as the Lady Tigers host No. 8 Cumberland University. Live stats and video will be available, HERE.
