LEBANON, Tenn. — Campbellsville pounded out 30 hits today in a doubleheader sweep of Cumberland University, while running its record to 39-7, 23-1 MSC.
The Lady Tigers, who moved up a spot to No. 4 in the NAIA Softball Poll, will stay on the road for their final conference series this weekend when they meet Georgetown in consecutive doubleheaders Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16. All four games will be broadcast on 88.7 The Tiger (wlcufm.com).
GAME 1: Campbellsville 7, Cumberland 0Â
Fourteen hits produced seven runs and Victoria Decker (21-4) pitched a five-hitter in shutting out the Phoenix, 7-0, in the first game. Decker walked two and struck out five in her seven-inning stint.
There were plenty of game bats to go around as eight Lady Tigers earned a spot in the box score. Rebecca Miller was 3-for-3 with three RBI. It was her double in the third inning that got the scoring under way. Jacqueline Roof (3-for-3, 2 RBI), Brianna Scott (2-for-5) and Hailey Szpila (2-for-3) had multiple hits for CU.
The Lady Tigers picked up two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. They added a seventh run in the sixth.
Shelby Ray, Markie Smith, Brittany Rippy and Madison Mudd all reached safely once a piece.
GAME 2: Campbellsville 12, Cumberland 6Â
Madison Mudd was 2-for-5 and finished with five RBIÂ as CU came back from a 3-0 hole to paste Cumberland (12-28, 8-16 MSC) 12-6 in the finale.
Neely Quint (17-3) pitched four innings of seven-hit ball, allowing five runs. She walked two and struck out one. Morgan Gailor pitched three innings of relief, allowing four hits and striking out one.
Six Lady Tigers had multiple-hit games, led by Mudd's five-RBI performance that included two doubles. Jacqueline Roof (2-for-4 RBI), Shelby Ray (2-for-5 2RBI), Brianna Scott (3-for-5 RBI), Hailey Szpila (2-for-3), and Destiney Taul (2-for-2) added multiple hits.
Katelyn Merritt picked up a two RBI single in the sixth, while Adrean Jordan and Brittany Rippy both had one hit.
Trailing 3-0 after one, CU scored four runs in the second and third innings to go up 8-3. Mudd had her five RBIÂ in those two frames.
