Women’s Soccer wraps up season with 2-0 loss to No. 16 Cumberland in MSC Semifinals

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Campbellsville women's soccer concluded its 2017 season with a 2-0 loss in the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament against 16th-ranked and top-seeded Cumberland University on Thursday afternoon at Warren Central High School.

The Lady Tigers (7-11-1) racked up eight shots in the match compared to 16 from the Phoenix (14-4-1). Only three of Campbellsville's shots found the target, while Cumberland had seven shots on goal.

Both teams played through the first 45 minutes of play without either side finding the back of the net. The Phoenix rifled off six shots in the first half, while the Lady Tigers compiled three during the half.

In the 57th minute of action, Amanda Howard committed a foul in the 18-yard box allowing Cumberland a penalty kick opportunity. Sarah Haddock took the PK and even though Howard went the correct direction, Haddock's shot was hit just hard enough to find the back of the net.

Less than 10 minutes later, Rebecca Holloway doubled the Phoenix lead with her 11th goal of the season. Emily Shires slide her a pass down the left wing and Holloway shot the ball across the face of goal an into the far side of the net.

Trailing by a pair of goals, Campbellsville tried to mount a comeback with a stretch of offensive pressure in the final third over the last 20 minutes of play. However, Ashley Kambeitz stopped all three shots that were sent her way.

The Lady Tigers could not rally from its two-goal deficit as the Phoenix held on for a 2-0 victory.

Campbellsville ends the season with a record of 7-11-1 overall.
