WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Campbellsville ran its win streak to 15 games as the Lady Tigers (25-7, 12-0 MSC) swept a twin bill from the University of the Cumberlands today, 5-2, 13-1.
CU hammered 26 hits in the two games and Lady Tiger pitching limited the Patriots (13-21, 5-9 MSC) to just three runs on 11 hits.
GAME 1 – Campbellsville 5, Cumberlands 2
The Lady Tigers played from behind in the first game, trailing 1-0 after one inning. But a three-run second and solo runs in the fourth and seventh innings helped produce the winning margin.
Morgan Gailor (10-3) spread out a five-hitter over five frames and saw relief help in the fifth from
Rachel Denkins. Denkins allowed only one hit. The two combined for three strikeouts.
Five players had two-hit games for CU, including
Mia Aldridge,
Alexis Smith,
Rebecca Miller,
Tori Humphrey and
Brittany Rippy.
GAME 2 – Campbellsville 13, Cumberlands 1
A six-run third inning put Game 2 out of reach after CU took a 2-0 lead in the second.
Jacqueline Roof was 3-for-3 with four RBIs with her fifth home run of the season to go along with a single and a double.
In the third, the Lady Tigers sent 10 batters to the plate, collecting five hits, all singles that produced the six runs.
Brianna Scott's single scored
Hailey Szpila who had doubled in front of her for the fourth-inning run.
Neely Quint (12-4) was working on a two-hitter going to the fifth, but gave up leadoff singles to the first two batters and then a third hit that scored Cumberlands' only run.
Madison Mudd was 2-for-3, Szpila 3-for-3, Scott 2-for-2 and
Markie Smith 1-for-3.
Alexis Smith's home run in the fifth produced three runs.
The Lady Tigers continue on the road with a doubleheader Tuesday, April 4 at Cumberland University — first pitch 2 p.m.
