Lady Tigers unable to get timely hit, upset by Cumberlands in MSC Tournament, 2-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Lady Tigers couldn't pick up the timely hit and left nine runners on base, falling to University of the Cumberlands in the Mid-South Conference Winnner's Bracket, 2-1.

With the loss, two-seeded Campbellsville (38-12) will now play five-seed University of Pikeville (17-30) at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon. Fans can tune into the CU Sports Network for radio coverage starting at 11:45 p.m. ET.

Cumberlands, which won an 11-inning battle over three-seeded Georgetown 5-4 earlier in the day, rallied once again for an upset victory of CU. The Patriots tied the game in the seventh and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth after a pair of leadoff singles crossed the plate.

Campbellsville took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning after Jacqueline Roof scored on a sac fly by Tori Humphrey. But the Lady Tigers had three runners in scoring position in the final three innings and could not muster another run.

In the seventh inning, Madison Monin led off the inning with a single to left field and her pinch-runner Elisa Mauldin advanced to second on a ground ball to starter Neely Quint (18-6). Mauldin then came around to score on an RBI single to right field by Kailin Yantz.

In the eighth, Quint started the inning and gave up a single to speedster Kaylee James. James stole second and moved to third on a sac bunt, then beat the throw from Brittany Rippy on a ground ball to second base by Ciara England to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead.

Rachel Denkins relived Quint in the circle and worked out of the jam with a nice play on a squeeze bunt then struck out Hayley Kilburn to end the threat.

In the eighth, CU had a chance to tie it after a two-out double by Rebecca Miller but Mia Aldridge grounded out to end the rally.

Aryanna Cannoy (3-2) earned the win after tossing eight innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run.

Cumberlands now plays top-seeded Lindsey Wilson at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon in the Winner's Bracket finals.
