COLUMBIA, Ky. – In the final match of the regular season for the Campbellsville women's tennis team, the Lady Tigers suffered a 7-2 setback against No. 5 Lindsey Wilson College on Friday.
Campbellsville concludes the regular season with an overall record of 11-6, while going 4-2 in Mid-South Conference action.
The Lady Tigers fell behind early with
Bailey Decker and
Brooklyn Harris dropping an 8-0 decision at No. 3 doubles to Lina Sachica Ramos and Lucia Mora Diaz. However, Campbellsville bounced back in a top 25 contest at No. 1 singles.
Kaede Amano and
Majella Nobile (ranked 15th in the NAIA) shutout Minja Gligic and Jovana Peric (ranked No. 21 in the NAIA), 8-0 to even the match at one.
In the decisive doubles contest at No. 2, Fiona Curty and Chiara Epifani beat
Bolor Enkhbayar and
Grace Rowe, 8-3, to grab a 2-1 lead for the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson ran its lead out to 4-1 after Curty beat Nobile, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, followed by No. 18 Peric taking down Enkhbayar, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. No. 12 Amano cut the Lady Tiger deficit to two after winning a ranked match against No. 36 Gligic, 7-5, 6-3.
However, Campbellsville could not build off the momentum dropping the final three singles matches. The clinching point for the Blue Raiders came at No. 4 singles where Rowe lost 6-1, 6-1 to Sachica Ramos.
Rounding out the contest, Harris lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles to Mora Diaz and Decker lost 6-0, 6-0 to Gabriella Pedroza at No. 6 singles en route a 7-2 loss for the Lady Tigers.
Campbellsville now begins postseason competition at the Mid-South Conference Championship in Bowling Green, Ky., starting on Friday, April 20.
