MOBILE, Ala. – The Campbellsville men's tennis team ended its season on Friday afternoon after a 5-0 defeat to No. 2 Keiser University in the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Tigers (20-7) made its second-straight appearance in the national quarterfinals, but suffered a 5-0 setback after the Seahawks (17-6) got off to a strong start with all three doubles points.
Keiser jumped ahead early with an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles after
Blayze O'Keefe and
Martin Munoz dropped an 8-0 decision to Julian Turosienski and Oliver Koeng. At No. 1 doubles, Andrew Connolly and Marc Algeri took down
Pablo Alonso Munoz and
Alejandro Reyes, 8-6.
The Seahawks jumped ahead, 3-0, in the match after Vicente Lagos and Arthur Bonnaud (ranked 19th in the NAIA) beat
Chrys Castro and
Adrian Sabrojo, 8-6.
Needing just two victories in singles competition; Keiser continued its roll with a pair of straight-set wins.
Bonnaud (No. 38 in the NAIA) put the Seahawks just one point away from the national semifinals after winning at No. 4 singles against Sabrojo, 6-0, 6-3.
The clinching point came from Turosienski at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alonso Munoz as the Tigers finished off their season with a 5-0 loss.
In the unfinished matches, the Tigers were down a set in each of the four contests.
Campbellsville capped off its season with an overall record of 20-7.
