KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Lady Tigers roll to their first win of the 2019 NCCAA National Tournament in a 7-0 victory over Piedmont International University.
Outshooting the Bruins 35-5, CU was able to put 16 shots on goal in route to their seven-goal win.
The Lady Tigers got the scoring started quickly after
Lakin Walls broke through the PIU defense. Walls then dished the ball over to Bryson for her first goal of the afternoon, only five minutes into the match.
In the next six minutes, CU was able to five more shots up, but with no success. However, on in the 13
thminute, Walls was able to find Bryson again to put the Lady Tigers up, 2-0.
The next goal came for Campbellsville in the 25
th, as
Andrea Brizuela etched her name into the scoring column. Brizuela, took a pass form the Lady Tigers assist leader,
Sangmin Cha, for her third goal of the season.
Molly Hall has herself a pair of goals for CU as well. The first came in the 28
th on a pass from
Rachel McWilliams to add to the Lady Tiger lead, 4-0.
Jenna Croteau scored the final of the five first half goals for Campbellsville. After shots from
Naia Landaluce and
Lauryn Martin were deflected by the Bruin defense, Croteau was able to rebound ball to put it past the keeper.
Halls second goal came in the second half where she scored on a pass from
Sarah Johnston in the 60
thminute.
As CU relied on the reserves for much of the second half, the scoring slowed, but that did not stop the Lady Tigers from adding to their 6-0 lead.
After multiple opportunities in the second half, Cha was able to set up another attack to pick up her 10
th assist of the season. This ties her for second all-time in assists in a season for CU. This time she was able to put
Rebecca Lilley in position for the Lady Tiger goal.
Tonight's win gives the Lady Tigers three points to lead Pool B, prior to day two of NCCAA tournament action. This margin of victory also allowed Campbellsville benefit on the second tie breaker of the tournament, goal differential.
In Pool B play, Roberts Wesleyan will face Piedmont International tomorrow give the Lady Tigers the information they need to advance prior to Wednesday's game.
Campbellsville will meet No. 5 Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET to determine chances for reaching the tournament semifinal.
