McKayla Campbell earns MSC Women's Wrestler of the Year honor

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Campbellsville's McKayla Campbell was named the MSC Women's Wrestling of the Year, officials announced at the annual awards banquet this weekend.

Campbell, a sophomore was Wauseon, Ohio, is the second Lady Tiger to earn the honor after Kayla Miracle did so last year in the inaugural season.

Campbell was named the MSC Wrestler of the Year after going 23-2 in her sophomore campaign and placed second at the WCWA National Championship. She earned MSC Women's Wrestler of the Week three times this season and earned Freshman of the Year accolades last year.

"McKayla Campbell has continued to demonstrate what our program is all about," said coach Lee Miracle. "She works hard, battles through adversity, doesn't quit, and just gets the job done with no excuses. We knew what we were getting when we recruited her. A hard-nosed athlete that excels on and off of the mat. She's been all of that and more. McKayla has a bright future ahead of her as she is only a sophomore."

In addition to Campbell, Campbellsville produced the most individual champions at the event with four - Koral Sugiyama (123), Andribeth Rivera (130), Mariah Harris (170) and Alexandra Castillo (191) won their weight class for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers now have a couple weeks to prepare for the inaugural NAIA Invitational which is scheduled for March 15-16 in Jamestown, North Dakota.
