CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — A walk off home run in game one and five-run inning in game two secured No. 16 Campbellsville's sweep over Cumberland University on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers were down to their final out in game one, but Mia Aldridge delivered a two-run walk off to win, 2-1. In game two, it was CU chasing Cumberland starter Kayley Caplinger after the first inning and held on to win, 6-4.

Morgan Gailor (6-2) and Aleigha Talsma (6-1) were spectacular in the circle, while Karson Williams picked up her first save of the season in relief of game two.

Offensively, the Lady Tigers were led by Ryleigh Oldham as she went 3-for-4 at the plate in the two games including an RBI double. Riley Hurst picked up her third home run of the season in the first inning of game two to extend her team-lead with 19 RBI on the season.

Game one: Campbellsville 2, Cumberland 1

The Lady Tigers were only able to muster four hits but two of them came in the final inning. The Phoenix had eight hits but left 10 runners on base. Gailor worked out of jams in the first four innings before working a perfect fifth.

The Phoenix had a leadoff double by Tyra Graham to open the game but Gailor stranded her at third base with one of her five strikeouts. Cumberland picked up two hits in the second another strikeout and fly ball to centerfield ended another rally.

In the sixth, the Phoenix took a 1-0 lead. It was a single by Caplinger to lead off the frame, but her pinch-runner Jasmine Krauss was thrown out attempting to steal. Bridgette Antonelli then singled to left field and Paula Del Valle walked to put runners on first and second with one out. Caitlyn Griffin then singled to left field and a bobble in the outfield allowed the run to score.

Gailor worked out of the base loaded jam with another strikeout and fly out to left field. She finished the day tossing her fifth complete game, allowing eight hits, zero earned runs, walked three and struck out five.

In the seventh, Aleigha Talsma earned a pinch-hit walk to lead off the frame. Back to the top of the order, Payton Blades was unable to get a bunt down and ended up flying out to right field. But that setup the Aldridge home run.

Morgan Arndt (6-2) picked up the tough-luck loss for Cumberland. She allowed four hits and two earned runs while walking four.

Game two: Campbellsville 6, Cumberland 4

Talsma started in the circle and went five innings to pick up the win. She ended up allowing eight hits, one earned run and struck out five. Williams entered in the sixth to earn the two-inning save allowing only one hits and two walks.

The scoring started in a flurry in the first and that was all Campbellsville needed for the sweep. Blades and Aldridge both walked to setup an RBI single by Lexi Miller. Riley Hurst then blasted her third home run of the year with a round tripper to centerfield.

Leading now 3-0, CU scored two more with two outs. After a walk to Tori Humphrey, Oldham delivered a pop up to right field by Imani Torregano lost the ball in the sun to allow Humphrey to score from first and Oldham reach second. She ended up scoring on a Dana Adkins single up the middle.

The Phoenix answered in the second thanks to a pair of Lady Tiger errors.

Leading now 5-2, Talsma allowed a run in the fourth but it was unearned after another Campbellsville error – the third of the game and fourth of the day.

Talsma did work out of a jam in the fourth and fifth to strand a combined four runners. She got Caplinger to strikeout looking and pinch hitter Courtney Miles also went down without getting the bat off her shoulder in the fifth.

Campbellsville had chances in the fifth and sixth to add insurance runs but was unable to get bunts down as the Lady Tigers were 0-for-5 attempting to advance runners with the sacrifice today.

Williams entered in the top of the sixth and allowed a leadoff single. After a passed ball allowing Tyra Graham to advance to second, Williams worked out of the jam with three straight ground ball outs.

A hit by pitch and walk brought the go ahead run to the plate but Riley Hurst doubled off pinch runner Kelsie Boyle after a sharp liner to shortstop. Aldridge then snagged a hard-hit ball at first base to end it the rally.

Up Next:

Campbellsville hosts Union College on Tuesday, March 26 at 2 p.m. ET for a doubleheader. The Lady Tigers travel to Shawnee State next weekend after the Bears won three of four games over Georgetown the last two days.
