Mobile scratches two runs in the seventh to end Lady Tiger softball's season

GULF SHORES — University of Mobile scored two runs in the seventh inning and No. 15 Lady Tiger softball couldn't get the big hit it needed, falling in the Opening Round Championship, 2-0.

The loss ends Campbellsville's season with a 35-15 record. Mobile (53-11) advances to the Avista NAIA World Series scheduled to begin on May 23 in Springfield, Missouri.

Today, it was senior Morgan Gailor tossing one of the best games of her career. The Rams scratched only three hits against the righty but one of those turned into the game-winner, and it never got past the infield dirt.

In the seventh, Gailor allowed her third walk of the day to lead off the inning and the Rams' brought up a pinch hitter, Taylor LeDrew. She moved the runner with a sacrifice bunt but turned into a fielder's choice after Tori Humphrey's attempt to get the lead runner was a step late at second.

Now with runners on first and second and no outs, the Rams went to the short game again with a bunt and run. Payton Adams pushed a beauty right at the shortstop position, but Riley Hurst vacated the spot on the steal, allowing Jaden Morace to score from second base.

With runners on first and second, the Rams took advantage of an error on another sacrifice bunt then scored their second run on a full-count change-up that bounced away from catcher Ryley Whitney turning into a wild pitch.

That was all the offense Mobile could muster.

Campbellsville couldn't take advantage of Erika Greek's subpar day in the circle. The Rams' senior fell victim to five walks, but the Lady Tigers couldn't pick up the timely hit.

In the first inning, Mia Aldridge delivered a one-out double but was stranded. In the second, Lexi Miller walked with one out, and in the third Hurst and Whitney both walked with two outs, but CU couldn't score them.

Humphrey delivered a two-out single in the sixth but that was the final baserunner CU had all day.

Campbellsville's season ends with its third appearance in the NAIA Opening Round Championship series and fifth appearance overall in the Opening Round.
