Four doubles in the final two innings secure come back in MSC Tournament over Shawnee State

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Four doubles in the last two innings uncorked a 3-3 tie in the fifth and sixth frames and the Lady Tigers were able to squeak out a 5-3 win over sixth-seeded Shawnee State University.

The win moves the 15th-ranked Lady Tigers (32-11) into the winner's bracket finals against No. 5 and top-seeded Lindsey Wilson (44-2). The two will meet on Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m. ET at Buchanon Park.

Payton Blades sparked the Lady Tiger offense with three hits, while Mia Aldridge delivered a pair of doubles as well – none bigger than a leadoff two-bagger in the fifth followed with an RBI double by Ryley Whitney to put CU up for good, 4-3.

In the sixth, it was Blades picking up a two-out double and was followed with a first-pitch liner to right-center field to put CU ahead, 5-3.

Before the fireworks in the late innings, Shawnee State gave everything the Lady Tigers could handle and it went down to the final play of the game.

The Bears led 1-0 after a single by Ashtyn Saunders and double by Mo Wolansky. CU answered with a run in the home half of the first – another leadoff single by Blades turned into an RBI ground out by Ryley Whitney. But that was the first of two bases loaded no-out jams the Lady Tigers had in the early stages.

Shawnee State scratched two runs in the third off Morgan Gailor (16-6) but the Lady Tigers didn't led the Bears' 3-1 lead last long. Blades singled, Aldridge reached on an error and Riley Hurst walked to load the bases again with no outs. Whitney delivered another RBI groundout and Tori Humphrey followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3. Whitney led the Lady Tigers with three RBI tonight in game two.

That's where the lead would stay until the fifth when CU put together four doubles in the last two innings to pull ahead for good, 5-3.

The Bears made things interesting in the seventh though. After getting two quick outs, Gailor allowed three-straight singles to load the bases. Katlyn Gleich then became the sixth strikeout victim to end the would-be rally by Shawnee State.

Shawnee State ended up leaving 12 runners on base and two errors ended up turning into the game-winning runs for the Lady Tigers.
