Hill and Scurt win at doubles, Hill also wins lone singles match in loss to Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Lady Tiger tennis got their season started on Saturday afternoon falling to NCAA DII Bellarmine University, 6-1.

Campbellsville won a pair of matches overall but the new scoring system this year in Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) only gave the Lady Tigers on point.

The new scoring system features all three doubles matches combining for one point, therefore whoever wins the majority of the three doubles matches receives one point. Then the six singles matches count as one point each for a total of seven – which is different than the previously needed nine team points.

The first win for Campbellsville came at No. 2 doubles as freshman Madison Hill teamed up with veteran Rebeca Scurt to beat Jennifer Skonieczny and Aubrey Smith, 6-3.

Hill also had a solid singles match at No. 6 singles and won in a tiebreak earning the Lady Tigers their lone team point. She won the first set, 6-4, over Channing Varnum and rallied to win 7-6 (8-6) in the second set.

At No. 3 singles, Scurt's match went to three sets after she won the first, 6-4, and lost the second, 6-2. The third went to Aubrey Smith, 6-1.

No. 2 singles was a close match as well, but Itzel Hernandez lost 7-5, 6-4 to Skonieczny.

The loss is puts Campbellsville at 0-1 on the year but the Lady Tigers return to action next weekend for a pair of matches at Indiana University Southeast and Indiana University East on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 22-23.
