Athletic Trainers earn third MSC Athletic Training Staff of the Year honor

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The Campbellsville University athletic training staff is the 2019-20 Mid-South Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year, conference officials announced on Monday.

The honor is the third for the Campbellsville staff.

"The Mid South Conference is blessed to have such strong member athletic training departments that this recognition could have gone to any of them," Campbellsville Director of Athletic Training Services Derek Port said. "To receive the recognition of Athletic Training Staff of the Year is a testament to the work and dedication of my staff. Josh Hawkins, Keri Coots, Josh Williams, Elly Wright, Sara Meyer, Phil Littlejohn, Kaitlyn Sanfilippo, Rebekah Tilton, and Lyndsie Short have all bought into the mission and vision of Campbellsville University and the Athletic Training Department and all have done so selflessly.

"They have worked tirelessly to provide the best possible care to the student-athletes at Campbellsville University and the Mid-South Conference," Port added. "Thank you to Jim Hardy (Director of Athletics), Rusty Hollingsworth (Vice President for Athletics and Student Services), and President Michael Carter for the administrative support that allows us to succeed."

The MSC Athletic Training Staff of the Year is voted on by the Medical Aspects committee which is comprised of the head athletic trainers from each full-time member of the conference.

Campbellsville also received the honor in 2014-15 and 2017-18.

"I am thrilled that Derek Port and our staff of athletic trainers are being recognized for their outstanding work to provide care for the student-athletes here at Campbellsville University," Campbellsville athletics director Jim Hardy said. "They truly represent the standard of excellence we want in all areas of our athletic department. Congratulations to Derek and all the staff!"

The MSC Athletic Training Staff of the Year was first awarded in 2014-15. Campbellsville has received the honor the most followed by Cumberland University, University of the Cumberlands and University of Pikeville, who have each earned the honor once.

"Derek and his staff do an incredible job of serving the student-athletes at Campbellsville University," MSC Commissioner Eric Ward said. "I know how much Derek leans on his staff throughout the year, and their outstanding work allows him the time to also focus his efforts to assist the Mid-South Conference and the NAIA through his many leadership roles. Congratulations to the entire Campbellsville University athletic training staff for their excellent work and this well-deserved acknowledgment of their efforts."
