MARSHALL, Mo. – The Lady Tigers hit the mats officially for the first time this year as they travelled out to the Missouri Valley Open at Missouri Valley College. Campbellsville finished the two-day event in the top-10, placing 10
th out of 38.
The Lady Tigers found several small victories in the tournament as they had 13 wrestlers make it to the third round of the winners' brackets. They were:
Campbellsville also had two individual top-10 finishes as
Liliana Vergara finished 7
th in the 191-pound weight class and
Randi Robison finished 8
th in the 136-pound weight class.
Vergara fell into the loser's bracket of the open after falling in a 12-6 decision in the third round. She was able to bounce back and pick up a 10-0 technical fall. Vergara was then defeated by Jesse Kirby from University of the Cumberlands via pinfall. In Vergara's final match, she picked up a 2-0 decision win to finish 7
th in her weight class.
Robison also was knocked into the loser's bracket after a 4-1 decision defeat in the third round. She then picked up a pinfall victory at 4:49. Robison would then grab another pinfall in 2:35. She would then move further in the bracket by picking up an injury default win. Robison would then fall via an injury default in her last two matches securing an 8
th place finish in her weight class.
The Lady Tigers will return to action on December 3
rd and 4
th as they travel to Williamsburg, Ky. to battle in the University of the Cumberlands Duals.
