Bilz, Castro, and Walker win and cement first place team finish at Warrior Open

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #4 Lady Tigers Wrestling squad travelled to the Indiana Institute of Technology for the Warrior Open Saturday. Of the 13 teams participating, Campbellsville led the field with a 234.5 team score picking up overall wins in the 116-, 130-, and 143-pound divisions.

The Lady Tigers bested second place #2 Life University by 13 points. Also participating in the open were Adrian College, #6 University of the Cumberlands, #10 Indiana Tech, (RV) Brewton-Parker College, (RV) Lourdes University, Lincoln Memorial University, Hiram College, Davenport University, Trine University, and Northern Michigan University finishing in that order.

Kelsey Bilz (116), Leilah Castro (130), and Emma Walker (143) all captured overall victories in their divisions. Bilz managed a decision win in her opening match and then three consecutive pinfalls, including the pin in the finals at 1:08. Castro had two falls, a technical fall 12-0, and an 8-2 decision in the final match. Walker left with a :47 pinfall, a 10-0 technical fall, and then was the beneficiary of a 1:25 injury forfeit in the finals. The sophomore Walker has still yet to be defeated this season collecting a 10-0 open record thus far.

Kaden Campbell took home second place after suffering a technical fall 10-0 in the finals of the 126-pound group. Liliana Vergara was also runner-up when she lost via pinfall in the first round but then swept rounds two through seven in the 191-pound division. Sophomore Gabrielle Medeiros was able to claim third place in the 101-pound bracket while junior Anna Rusth also posted a bronze finish in the 123-pound division. Representatives in the 170-pound class, Leilani Martinez and Sierra Chavez, finished fourth and fifth respectively. Hannah McDonald came in third place with the 143-pound wrestlers when she emerged victorious from the loser's bracket with a pinfall after succumbing to a 5-4 decision in the winner's.

Lady Tigers wrestling will return in the new year on January 6th–7th when they participate in the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Kentucky.
