OWENSBORO, Ky. - Looking to avenge a loss in the regular season, the Campbellsville University men's tennis team earned a 4-2 win in the MId-South Conference quarterfinals against Martin Methodist College Friday evening.
The Tigers were able to secure the doubles point to start off 1-0 in the dual after
Raul Safont and
Nicolas Verdu earned a 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles followed by the point clinching win by
Yuto Shimotsuji and
Grayson Cullen at No. 3 doubles as the No. 1 doubles match went unfinished.
CU pulled ahead 2-0 to start doubles after
Nicolas Weisner earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 doubles but it was quickly tied up at 2-2 following Redhawks wins at No. 6 and No. 4 singles.
Campbellsville's No. 1 and No. 2 were able to come through as Safont earned a straight-sets win at 6-1, 6-2 with
Matus Sevcik slinching the TIger victory by pulling out a three-set win after losing the first as the scores went 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The Tigers move on to a semifinal matchup against regular season champions Lindsey Wilson College as they'll face off with the Blue Raiders at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT in Owensboro, Ky. on Saturday.
