CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY — Kayla Miracle, former Campbellsville Tiger, will begin competition August 2 in Women's Freestyle at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
 
Miracle comes in as the fourth overall seed for the games. She is the only representative for the United States at 62kg. 

In order for Miracle to make it to the gold medal match she would eventually have to meet returning 2019 world champion Aisuluu Tynbekova. On the opposite side of the bracket the 2019 world silver medalist Taybe Mstafa Yusein and 2019 world bronze medalist Yukak Kawai are the second and third overall seeds.

The format of the Olympic tournament is not a standard double elimination format. If a wrestler lost a match the person that defeats them  must make it to the finals for you to remain in the tournament. The best a wrestler can do at that point is the bronze medal. Wrestlers must win four matches to win the gold medal. 

There are 16 wrestlers in the 62kg weight class. Each wrestler has had international success in recent years.

Miracle competed in her first Senior Worlds in 2019 but did not earn a medal. She has been winning World medals since her teen years, claiming a Cadet World silver in 2012, two bronze medals from the Junior Worlds in 2014 and 2016 and a silver medal at the 2019 U23 Worlds. 
 
She was a four-time WCWA college national champion for the Tigers. Miracle has been strong in continental events, winning the 2021 Pan American Championships and the 2019 Pan American Games.
 
Miracle will wrestle Monday evening August 2nd coverage starting at 10 p.m. ET and that session will conclude at 12:30 AM (EST). If she wins both of her preliminary matches she will wrestle again in the semi-finals which will take place Tuesday morning with coverage beginning at 5 a.m. ET. If Miracle advances to the gold medal match, it will take place Wednesday morning with coverage beginning at 5 a.m. ET.
