CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lady Tigers' aggressive attack wasn't enough to overcome Aquinas' two first half goals as Campbellsville fell to the Saints, 2-1.
The first half proved virtually even in time of possession but lopsided in terms of goals. In the eighth minute, Aquinas' Sydney Shenk was given an open net off a pass from teammate Hannah Crum for the first goal of the night. Seven minutes later Shenk would connect with the back of the net once again from an assist by Macy Hollingsworth, the ball bouncing off
Riley Thompson's hands.
For the second half, the Lady Tigers were clear from the onset that they would be in attack mode. Campbellsville would take 15 shots compared to the first half's five and would tally 14 shots on goal for the game. Sophomore forward
Angeline Kieh led the charge with eight shots on goal for the game. In the 53
rd minute, Kieh pulled Saints keeper Tairyn Webb out of the net, dribbled to the baseline, and connected with freshman forward
Lina Berrah for the first goal of Berrah's Campbellsville Women's Soccer career.
The rest of the way would be a scoreless, but eventful affair. The Lady Tigers nearly scored in the final minutes from a strike by Berrah. The ball ricocheted off of Webb's gloves towards the net, but a bicycle kick save by Aquinas' Breanna Probst prevented the equalizer. The final horn blew with Aquinas recording 13 saves compared to Campbellsville's 2, a testament to the Lady Tigers' offensive onslaught.
Campbellsville Women's Soccer now looks ahead to their next match Wednesday September 8
th where they will be on the road against Union College.
