INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Campbellsville was unable to come back from a first half goal in the NAIA Opening round falling to Marian University 1-0.
Rirei Sasaki kept the Tigers out of trouble for most of the match with five saves including two saves where there was an open net after a scramble in the box for the ball.
In the 20
th minute of play Erin Oleskak found the game winner for the nights on back door run. From start to finish, the match was physical with the cold weather playing a factor. Four yellow cards were given with nine fouls being called throughout the match.
After the goal, the play stayed stagnant in the midfield for the remainder of the half. Campbellsville was able to pick up momentum going into the locker room at halftime while keeping the ball on the offensive end the final five minutes.
In the second half, the Tigers took to the offensive early and kept the pressure up high on the Knights. Campbellsville began to see more service balls for them while keeping the Marian offense slow not able to press the attack.
The Tigers outshot the Knights 11-10 with
Angeline Kieh recording seven shots while four of those shots were on goal.
Campbellsville concludes the season with a record of 12-6-1. The Tigers won the Mid-South Conference Tournament for the first time in program history this season over the 2021 NAIA National Champions of UT Southern.
