Lady Tigers take two wins over Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.— The #10 Lady Tigers took on Keiser University in a double-header Saturday afternoon. After a long day in the sun, Campbellsville finished 2-0 against the Seahawks.

Game One: Campbellsville 8, Keiser 0

The Lady Tigers faltered in the top of the first inning as the Keiser pitcher was able to get out of a no-outs, bases-loaded jam leaving Campbellsville with zero runs scored. However, the Lady Tigers' defense was resilient as they knocked down the first three Seahawk batters to return to the bats.

In the top of the second, Keeley Bowling hit the ball out to deep right to earn herself a double. Sam McKee followed her teammate as she produced a line drive out to the same area to trade places with Bowling. Riley Whitney collected an RBI single to bat in Mckee for a score of 2-0. The Seahawks were unable to respond on the base pads as Lexi Miller threw out the Keiser runner advancing to home plate to close the inning.

After a scoreless third inning, a few Lady Tigers got the bats rolling in the fourth. Riley Hurst sent the ball to deep center field to earn an RBI double which scored McKee. Miller shot the ball out over the left center field wall for a two-run round tripper putting the Seahawks down by five.

Around again, McKee and Hurst produced back-to-back bunt singles placing two runners on the pads. Miller proceeded her teammates as she fashioned another homer to collect three more RBIs to her total. Campbellsville capped the first game at 8-0 over the Seahawks.

Miller was a powerhouse in the first match as she finished with a slugging percentage at 4.000. Mckee (1.500%) and Hurst (1.250%) dominated in the batter's box as well. Katy Chadwell threw a complete game only giving up three hits out of her 73 pitches thrown.

Game Two: Campbellsville 8, Keiser 6

The first two innings went by quickly as neither team mustered runs. Campbellsville was first to change that as Bailey Richardson's sacrifice bunt pushed her and Bowling around the bases. McKee followed Richardson with another bunt which secured the bag on a Keiser error. Hurst batted in her fellow Lady Tigers (Richardson and Bowling) as her double to right field rang true. Whitney collected a two-run RBI after her single to right field led to Hurst and McKee scoring off a throwing error. Madison Davis scored Whitney with her double down the left field line.

After the third inning, Courtney Patterson had thrown a total of 33 pitches and 28 of them were strikes. Her pitching along with the Lady Tigers' defense had kept Keiser at a deficit of 5-0 going into the fourth inning.

With zero outs, the Seahawks put a few hits together that scratched at Campbellsville's lead. The Lady Tigers responded with a double-play and loaded-count strike out delivered from Patterson.

Karson Williams appeared in the bottom of the fifth to relieve Patterson. Williams gave up two hits, but her pitching and the defenders behind her locked down which made Keiser unable to advance.

In the top of the seventh, Whitney and Davis were given bases from a walk and a bunt. Ashley Murt moved the two pinch runners (Journey Knowles, Emily Reynolds) which were scored by an error and fly ball. Campbellsville suffered from an error and a big hit from the Seahawks while there were no outs. Keiser put up four runs before Patterson came back in to pitch for the Lady Tigers. Campbellsville led 8-6 to close out the game.

Whitney tallied two hits and three RBIs as well as slugging a 1.667%. Hurst had two hits and two RBIs with a .750 slugging percent. Patterson closed the day with a .745 pitches-strikes percentage.

Campbellsville will be back in action in a home opener Tuesday, February 22nd. The Lady Tigers will compete against Bryan College with game times starting at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. ET.
