COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Campbellsville Lady Tiger Softball team finished their four-game series in the Battle of Highway 55 against Lindsey Wilson College Friday afternoon. The Lady Tigers fell to the Blue Raiders in both games; game one 12-4 and game two 7-5.
Game One: Campbellsville 4, Lindsey Wilson 12
To begin the ball game,
Lexi Miller was the first Lady Tiger to reach base via walk.
Ryley Whitney sent a pitch back up the middle to advance Miller into scoring position and land herself on first.
Riley Hurst singled to left field to score Miller and advanced Whitney to second. The single by Hurst gave the Lady Tigers an early one-run lead over the Blue Raiders.
In the second inning,
Keely Bowling reached first base on an infield error and advanced to second base. Bowling was left stranded on second base. Hurst sent a pitch over the center field fence for a solo home run in the third inning. The Lady Tigers took a two-run lead over the Blue Raiders with both runs coming from hits by Hurst. In the bottom of the third, the Blue Raiders filled the bases and scored two runs to tie the ball game.
With two outs, Bowling sent a pitch over the fence to put the Lady Tigers back in the lead in the fourth inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Lindsey Wilson loaded the bases after sending another runner across the plate to tie the game again. A double from the Blue Raiders sent two more runners around the bases and took a two-run lead over the Lady Tigers. A single extended the Campbellsville lead to three runs. A sacrifice bunt and an error on the Tigers' defense gave Lindsey Wilson an 8-3 lead. After the Blue Raiders loaded the bases again,
Courtney Patterson came in to relieve
Katy Chadwell in the circle. The Blue Raiders scored another run before the inning was completed.
Hurst sent a pitch over the left field fence in the fifth inning.
Payton Blades singled to center field and
Hadlee Carter came in to pinch run for Blade.
Taylor Windell came in to pinch hit and reach base after being hit by a pitch. Carter and Windell were left on base.
During the top of the sixth inning, Murt reached base on an error from the infield but was caught stealing second. In the bottom half of the inning,
Allison Bush came into the circle for the Lady Tigers. The Blue Raiders sent a pitch over the right field fence to extend their lead to six runs. The Blue Raiders hit another pitch over the fence with a runner on base to end the game. The Lady Tigers fell to the Blue Raiders, 12-4.
The Lady Tigers had seven total hits with three being home runs. Chadwell, Patterson, and Bush threw a combined total of 108 pitches with a .537 strike percentage.
Game Two: Campbellsville 5, Lindsey Wilson 7
To begin the ball game, the Blue Raiders capitalized with runners on base and took a three-run lead over the Lady Tigers. During the second inning, Blades started things off for the Lady Tigers and singled up the middle.
Madison Davis laid down a sacrifice bunt that advanced Blades to second base. Blades moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, but unfortunately was left on base. The Blue Raiders reached the base pads on errors and added another run to the scoreboard.
Hurst sent yet another pitch over the fence to put the Lady Tigers on the scoreboard in the third inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Patterson came in to relieve
Karson Williams in the circle. The Raiders sent two runners around the bases to take a six-point lead. Blades with another single to lead off the fourth inning and
Hadlee Carter came in to pinch run for Blades. Davis sent a pitch to left field and advanced Carter into scoring position.
Sam McKee singled to left field to score Carter and propel Davis to second base. McKee and Davis advanced up a base but were eventually left stranded.
To start the fifth, Hurst reached first off a single and Miller singled to advance Hurst to third. On an error from the same play, Hurst scored to cut into the Blue Raiders' now five-run lead. With one out, Blades reached base on a single to shortstop and then Miller scored on a wild pitch while Blades moved into scoring position. Again, Blades advanced on a wild pitch but was left on base. In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Tigers retired all three batters.
McKee started the sixth inning with a single to shortstop.
Kaeleigh Tuck reached base on a fielder's choice due to McKee being put out at second base. Tuck was later caught stealing second base. In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Tigers kept the Blue Raiders from scoring to keep the score at 7-4. With two outs in the seventh inning, Whitney sent a pitch over the center field fence for the 11th home run of the series for the Lady Tigers. Blades singled to left field but couldn't make her way around the bases. The Lady Tigers fell to the Raiders 7-5.
The Lady Tigers had 12 total hits with four belonging to Blades. Hurst and Whitney both had one home run in the game to contribute to the 11 total home runs for the series. Williams and Patterson threw a combined total of 103 pitches with a strike percentage of .544.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play a double-header against Bethel University on Tuesday in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The games are set to begin at 2 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. ET.
