Lady Tigers slip in final frame as Lindsey Wilson advances to MSC Tournament Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lady Tigers sought to continue their roll in the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament taking on the team that had defeated them in their first game there: the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders. Campbellsville clawed to a position where they could win, but couldn't close it out losing 11-5.

The first at bat of the day was a hit for Lindsey Wilson. The Tigers defense clamped down after that and the final fly-out left the Blue Raider on third base. Riley Hurst led off with a double down the left field line sustaining her hot streak from the games prior. Soon enough, the bases were loaded by the Lady Tigers and a Madison Davis sacrifice fly sent Hurst home for run one of the contest. Taylor Windell then hit a bomb to center field to get her second home run of the tournament and to rack up three RBIs. It would be a 4-0 lead for Campbellsville out the gate.

The Blue Raiders had two singles back-to-back in their effort to answer back. The next batter reached on a fielder's choice thus Lindsey Wilson having runners on the corners. Despite having the bases loaded and notching a hit, Lindsey Wilson was prevented from crossing home plate with a big out. The next hit would prove fruitful though as a single sent a Blue Raider home. It was the Lady Tigers' turn with the sticks again up three. With a pitching change, Lindsey Wilson hoped to curb Campbellsville's hot bats but couldn't stop Keely Bowling from launching a ball over the wall in left of center field.

Down four, the Blue Raiders didn't get much going in the third inning. The Lady Tigers didn't really either with no hits to add to their total. In the top of the fourth frame, the levee finally broke and Lindsey Wilson garnered four hits and three runs. In their attempt to answer, Campbellsville had the bases loaded from walks and hit-by-pitches. A new Lindsey Wilson pitcher entered and all Lady Tigers were left on base as a fly-out took the game to the fifth frame.

Karson Williams took starting pitcher Katy Chadwell's spot on the mound. The initial two batters hit singles and, after a fly out, the third single was recorded. With runners on all the bases, a fly meant the second out but not before a Blue Raider went home to even the game at 5 each. Campbellsville would grab the third out before Lindsey Wilson could break the tie. The bottom of the fifth was three up, three down for the Lady Tigers.

Williams struck two of the three Blue Raider batters out to end the top of the sixth. It was two quick outs for Campbellsville before Whitney singled to left field but a caught foul brought the contest to the seventh frame. After a batter was walked, a Blue Raider made it to first on a fielder's choice. With two runners on, a ground out pushed those two on base to second and third. Another ground out froze Lindsey Wilson, but a subsequent single put the third runner through. Up one score, an error grew the lead to 8-5 in the Blue Raiders' favor. Chadwell re-entered for Williams but her first batter homered to send in three more. It would be the Lady Tigers' turn after six runs and three hits by Lindsey Wilson. Despite a valiant effort, the Lady Tigers were eliminated 11-5.

The Blue Raiders out-hit the Lady Tigers 16 to 4. Even before the final inning, the Lady Tigers had the victory within their grasp despite the hit discrepancy. Windell led Campbellsville with three RBIs.
