OWENSBORO, Ky. – The #23 Campbellsville University's women's soccer team had their 2022 season debut at Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday evening. Campbellsville's offensive persistence led to a 5-0 lead over the Panthers.
In the first half of play, the Lady Tigers often charged toward the Panthers' goal with
Lina Berrah's attempted shot just twelve seconds into the match a testament to the fact. Campbellsville attempted eight shots within the first fourteen minutes of the game. Their shots would translate when junior forward Angelina Kieh's shot rang true tallying the Lady Tiger's first goal of the season. As 27:30 showed on the board, the Lady Tigers kept up their aggression in their opponent's box and were awarded a penalty kick. Kieh struck the left of the net to earn her team a 2-0 lead over Kentucky Wesleyan.
In the latter 45, the Lady Tigers continued to dominate on the offensive end. The duo of
Agatha Nimene and
Jayda Brown worked together to put Campbellsville further ahead of the Panthers to the tune of 3-0 when Brown logged her first career goal with the Lady Tigers. With four minutes remaining in the contest, Brown scored another goal with an assist by Kieh. Kieh earned herself a hat trick in the final minute assisted by
Natalie Wolf. The Lady Tigers walked away with their first win of the 2022 season in a 5-0 score.
Campbellsville worked valiantly in their offensive push all match. The Lady Tigers took 11 shots on goal whereas the Panthers took only one.
Doeschka Birnage, the Lady Tigers' goalkeeper, saved that solo shot toward the Lady Tiger goal with ease. Although Kentucky Wesleyan saved six of the 11 shots taken by Campbellsville, their offensive barrage proved too much for the Panthers.
Campbellsville will head back to the field Thursday, September 1
st in Grand Rapids, Michigan to compete against the Aquinas College Saints.
