PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. – The Tigers made their way to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to compete at the Rocky Top Duals this weekend. Campbellsville took out Rochester University, West Virginia University Institute of Technology, Reinhardt University, and Siena Heights University, finishing the weekend with a team record of 4-1 and move to 9-1 on the season.
In the first round, the Tigers faced Rochester University, winning 33-10. Troy Kennedy picked up a first-period pin over Christian Rojas., putting points on the board for Campbellsville. At 149 lbs., Lody Cheatham earned an 8-6 decision win over Nathan Young. Antwuan Burns, competing at 157 lbs., earned a 10-1 major decision over Rico Brown. In the next two matches, the Tigers picked up 11 team points. Shadrick Slone pinned his opponent in just over a minute, and Brice Parks earned a first-period technical fall. At 184lbs, Kiernan Sherwood won by a 7-5 decision over Kirgin Tanis. In the final match of the dual, Jaden Sonner earned a second-period pin over #14 Jackson Schenk.
The Tigers faced off against West Virginia University Institute of Technology in round two, winning dominantly, 53-6. Izaeah Beavers and Kennedy picked up forfeit wins in the first two weight classes, giving the Tigers an early 12-0 lead. Nicholas Yancey earned a technical fall. The Tigers earned five more pins against their opponents: Nick Moore at 149 lbs., Jake Hurst at 157 lbs., Gabe Martinez at 174 lbs., Chandler Woenker at 184 lbs., and Gabe Craig at 285 lbs.
In the third round, Life University defeated the Tigers 25-9. To begin, Beavers earned a 9-6 decision win over Kolby Dempsey. At 141 lbs., Yancey stuck out an 8-5 sudden victory win over #5 ranked Tyree Johnson. Moore, competing at 149 lbs., fell to #10 Reese Jones in a sudden victory 4-1. At 165 lbs., Slone won 12-10 over Jaden New. Parks fell to Tre Morrisette, 7-5 at 174 lbs. At 285 lbs., Sonner lost a 2-1 match to Spencer Dacus.
The Tigers took on #7 Reinhardt University and ended with a 32-9 win in the fourth round. Campbellsville took an early lead after Beavers earned a 13-5 major decision over #7 ranked Angel Banda. Yancey, Moore, and Hurst all picked up decision wins over their opponents. Slone pinned Wyatt Higgins in under a minute, and Parks earned a technical fall over Caleb Santiago. At 184 lbs., Woenker picked up a 9-2 decision win over Jonathon Paramore. Craig won by technical fall over Gavin Harper at heavyweight, 17-1.
Campbellsville was set to take on Siena Heights University in the fifth round but only participated in one match. In the single match, Beavers won over Cameron Beach by pin.
