GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Tigers competed at the Blithe Memorial Duals at Cornerstone University over the weekend and came away with their first set of wins as a team this season. The Tigers took down Northwestern College, Muskegon Community College, Liberty University, and University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire before securing a 29-15 win over Grand Valley State University in the finals.

At 125lbs., Izaeah Beavers got things started for the Tigers with a major decision win over Northwestern College's Sean Heeney. He wrestled again in the quarterfinals match where he earned a technical fall over Liberty University's Aiden Scheeringa. In the semifinals match, he pulled out a 13-10 decision victory over UW- Eau Claire's Carter Schulz. In the finals, Beavers pinned Grand Valley University's Preston Sokolowski. Beavers went 4-0 on the weekend.

In the 141lb. division, Nick Yancey had a strong showing. He earned a pin over Northwestern College's, Trey Schuck, a technical fall over Liberty's Blake Schmidt, a 11-6 minor decision over UW - Eau Claire's Andrew Kested, and a 7-1 minor decision over Grand Valley University's Jak Keller in the finals. Yancey finished with a record of 4-0.

For 149-pounders, Jose Milord went 3-2. On day one, he picked up a minor decision, a major decision win, and a forfeit, before losing by fall in the semifinals. In the finals, Milord lost a tight match to Grand Valley State's Michael Merritt 5-4.

At 157lbs., Antwuan Burns and Jake Hurst split matches. Burns earned three tech falls. He won 18-3 over Northwestern College's Cade Braun, 21-6 over Liberty University's Connor McCann, and 22-3 over Jan Hernandez-Soto of UW - Eau Claire. Hurst wrestled in the finals match where he pinned Caden Jacobs of Grand Valley State University.

For 165lbs., Shadrick Slone had a dominant performance. In his first matches, Slone earned a major decision and two falls. In the semifinals, he won a tight match 9-8 over UW - Eau Claire's Jonathon Harvey and in the finals, he earned his victory by major decision over Grand Valley State's Trammel Robinson. Slone finished the duals with a record of 5-0.

At 174lbs., Brice Parks and Gabe Martinez split matches. Parks picked up a fall in the first match and Martinez answered back with two consecutive falls. In the semifinals, parks lost to UW - Eau Claire's Jared Stricker by fall, and in the finals, Martinez lost by technical fall to Joshua Kenny of Grand Valley State University.

For the 184lb. bracket, also splitting matches were Chandler Woenker and Kiernan Sherwood. Woenker pulled out a close one over Northwestern College's Jakob Francksen-Small 1-0. Sherwood wrestled the next two for the Tigers earning a fall and a major decision. Woekner earned a fall over Nlal Schoenfelder of UW - Eau Claire in the semifinals before losing 4-0 to Grand Valley State's Seth Konynenbelt in the finals match.

At 197lbs., Grayson Stevens picked up a decision win over Kaleb Lind of Northwestern College before losing by major decision to UW - Eau's Cole Matulenko. Stevens finished the weekend strong with a technical fall in the finals match over Grand Valley State's Matthew Morris.

In the heavyweight division, Gabe Craig earned two technical falls. He won 15-0 over Northwestern College's Jaxon Hildebrand, and in the finals, he was victorious 19-4 over Brett Boudreaux of Grand Valley State. In the midst, Craig also picked up a pin and a minor decision making his record on the weekend 4-0.
