The Lady Tigers' battle ends with a tight #14 Grizzlies win

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Lady Tigers began their stay in Georgia to face #14 Georgia Gwinnett College Friday afternoon. Campbellsville pulled ahead after trailing early but ultimately lost 8-7.

The Lady Tigers were up to bat first, and Riley Hurst started the team with a single to shortstop. While Hurst stole second, she was the only hit of the inning and left on base after the next three at-bats struck out. Campbellsville took the field and walked the first two up to the plate. The next batter hit a single, loading the bases. The first two outs came next, but then a three-run RBI came, and another RBI brought the fourth run across home plate for Georgia Gwinnett before the third out.

The top of the second was short for the Lady Tigers. Ashby Murt singled to right field, but there was an out before that, and the next two came after her single. With the Grizzlies up to bat in the bottom of the inning, they had two hits before Campbellsville made some changes on their field. After those substitutions, the Lady Tigers got two quick outs, and two Grizzlies were left on base.

The Lady Tigers started to get their bats going in the third frame. Hurst singled again, followed by Lexi Miller with a single of her own. After those two hits, the next at-bats struck out swinging, and it was time for Campbellsville to take the field. In the bottom of the third, Georgia Gwinnett only had one hit, and one Grizzly was left stranded.

Morgan Carter started the fourth inning with a single for the Lady Tigers. Campbellsville couldn't keep that momentum going, and the next three batters were the three outs. The Lady Tigers had sharp defense in the bottom of the fourth and got three up and three down, and it was time for them to bat again. Up to bat, Campbellsville got a runner on second and third because of some errors by Georgia Gwinnett. The Lady Tiger bats were in full effect, and Miller got the first RBI for the team and brought Selynna Metcalfe across home plate for the first run. Payton Blades knocked a two-RBI double and brought Miller and Hurst in. After those runs came three outs, and it was time for Campbellsville to take the field. In the bottom of the fifth inning, GGC had two hits, but no runners came across home plate, and the Lady Tigers trailed 4-3.

Starting the sixth inning, Murt hit a single and then stole second. Following that, Caroline Pitcock smacked a single and sent Murt to tie up the game. Hurst then hit a single RBI. In the bottom of the inning, GGC was able to tie up the game again, closing out the frame with one run and one left on base. Starting the six outs, Madison Davis and Blades came across home plate after Murt hit a triple. After the third out, Campbellsville found themselves with a two-run lead. The bottom of the seventh started with the first at-bat getting out on a pop-up to second base. The Grizzlies had runners in scoring positions after their hit. Two Grizzlies had a single RBI and tied up the game one more time with only one out by Campbellsville. Georgia Gwinnett took the lead and ended the game after another single RBI.

The Lady Tigers saw two pitchers in this game. Katy Chadwell started the game and pitched 2.2 innings. She had ten hits off her and eight runs with three strikeouts. Allison Bush pitched 3.2 innings, had three hits off her, no runs, and one strikeout. Campbellsville finished with only one error compared to the GGC's four, but that one error came in the game's final inning and cost them the win.

Campbellsville remains at Georgia Gwinnett, taking on the College of Coastal Georgia and then the Grizzlies again Saturday the 18th. The first contest is at 11 a.m. ET.
