Lady Tigers light up Spartans in game one, tie game two

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lady Tigers played a doubleheader against Missouri Baptist Thursday afternoon. Campbellsville won the first game off consistent hitting but ran out of daylight with the second game in five innings played, and it ended in a tie.  

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 6, Missouri Baptist 0 

The Lady Tigers started the game on defense, and they got three up, three down, ready to get their bats going. In the bottom of the first inning, Campbellsville did get a hit but sent in no runs and left three on base. The second inning what a short one as both teams got three quick outs each.  

The Lady Tigers stood resolute in their defensive abilities and got another three quick outs in the top of the third frame. In the bottom of the third, Campbellsville got their bats going. Riley Hurst started them off with a single to shortstop. Ashby Murt then hit a homerun and brought Hurst across home plate with her. Payton Blades found herself on second base after a few Spartan errors. Caroline Pitcock then hit a single RBI and sent Blades home. Taylor Windell hit a single; after, she and Pitcock sat in scoring positions. Pitcock crossed home plate off a wild pitch as there was still only one out. Brea Croslin was up to bat next, and she hit a double RBI and brought Windell home. The last two outs came with two strikeouts, and Campbellsville had a 5-0 lead.  

In the top of the fourth inning, Missouri Baptist got another hit but didn't see any runs as they left a runner on base. The Lady Tigers got their sixth and final run in the bottom of the fourth as they left two stranded. That run came with an RBI from Pitcock that brought Hurst across home plate. In the top of the fifth, the Spartans got another hit but again, no runs. To close out the fifth inning, Campbellsville batters saw three quick outs. The sixth inning was the same for each team as Missouri Baptist got another hit, but neither team scored. The top of the seventh frame wrapped up the game as the Spartans added another hit but they were not able to see any runs as the game came to a close.  

The Lady Tigers went 3-4 (.750) with runners on base and there were less than two outs. Katy Chadwell was the only pitcher for Campbellsville. She threw 102 total pitches, and had four total strikeouts and runs from her pitching.  

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 1, Missouri Baptist 1 

The second game started with Missouri Baptist up to bat. Campbellsville committed one defensive error, but the Spartans didn't see any runs. The Lady Tigers added a hit from Hurst as she hit a single to center field. The next three batters for Campbellsville were all thrown out, and Hurst was left on base. The Spartans scored their first run of the day in the top of the second inning, and the Lady Tigers closed out that frame going three up, three down.  

In the top of the third, Missouri Baptist added two more hits to their total but didn't see any runs from those hits. The Lady Tigers went three up, three down again to close the frame. Campbellsville picked up their defense and got three quick outs looking to log more hits. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Murt hit a single to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Up next, Blades hit a double to left field and brought Murt home to tie up the game. The inning finished with three quick outs, and it was time to Campbellsville to take the field again. 

The top of the fifth frame saw another hit from Missouri Baptist, but they couldn't see any runs. Campbellsville also committed one error at the top of the fifth frame. Madison Davis started the bottom of the fifth with a single to left field. Selynna Metcalfe came into pinch run for Davis and found herself in a scoring position after Kaleigh Tuck singled and advanced to second. Emily Reynolds came in to run for Tuck as two Lady Tigers sat in scoring position. The two runners in scoring position were left on base as Campbellsville closed out the inning with two strikeouts. Before the sixth inning could start, Hord Softball Field out of daylight and the game ended in a tie.  

In the five innings played, Campbellsville struggled with errors as they committed three as the Spartans had no errors. Each team had one pitcher for the five innings, and for the Lady Tigers that pitcher was Courtney Patterson. Patterson had four hits, and one run off her but only had one walk. She saw 23 batters, and her pitches to strikes finished at 82-51.  

The Lady Tigers will return on Tuesday, February 28th as they face Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus. It's a doubleheader back at Hord Softball Field. The first game is set to begin at 2 p.m. ET.
