HENDERSON, Tenn. – The #23 Lady Tigers opened up the first game of their series against the #14 Freed-Hardeman win with an all-too-important victory nearing postseason play, taking game one 8-3.
A throwing error early on allowed Campbellsville to get the game rolling in their direction. Lexi Miller scored the opening run for the Lady Tigers on the error. Although Taylor Windell and Payton Blades both got out on the play, Miller pushed to the home plate. The Lady Lions responded shortly after to tie the game back up to an even 1-1 at the bottom of the first inning.
In the second frame, Keely Bowling singled straight up the middle as Madison Davis advanced to third and sent Caroline Pitcock in for the score. Kaeleigh Tuck came up to bat and doubled to center field for two RBI's. Riley Hurst stepped up to the plate and doubled to right field which pushed Ashby Murt across to add one more to the score. Ending the second inning heat, Blades put a single in center field and Hurst capped off the scoring runs, ending the inning with a 6-1 advantage.
The Lady Tigers began to cool down as the game progressed onward, but their defense stood resolute. Although Freed-Hardeman was collecting hits, they couldn't translate those into runs. The Lady Tigers brought the score up to 8-1 from Windell singling to left field, moving Blades to second and sending Hurst and Miller both in to score.
Freed-Hardeman attempted to climb back in the bottom of the seventh inning where they added two runs, but it was not enough as the Lady Tigers took game one in the series. The final score was 8-3 for Campbellsville.
Katy Chadwell pitched 6.2 innings and Allison Bush closed things out in the seventh. The Lady Tigers had a strike percentage of 65.7 versus the Lady Lion's 58. Although their hit totals were similar, the Lady Tigers were 8-21 (.381) with runners on while the Lady Lions sat at 4-14 (.286). Additionally, with runners in scoring position, Campbellsville held the advantage at 6-13 (.462) compared to Freed-Hardeman's 2-10 (.200).
The Lady Tigers are back in action tomorrow against Freed-Hardeman again for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. ET.
