BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The #2 seed Lady Tigers began the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament with a win over their rival and #8 seed Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson. Campbellsville advanced with a convincing 7-2 win.
Campbellsville started firing in the bottom of the first inning with four runs. Initially, Riley Hurst found first base on a walk. Caroline Pitcock and Payton Blades advanced Hurst around the bases in their at-bats. Taylor Windell sent a pitch over to right field to score Hurst. Morgan Carter followed up with a sacrifice fly which she exchanged for an RBI as she brought Pitcock across the plate. Madison Davis tacked on two more RBI's for the Tigers as she tallied a home run to score Windell and herself.
Lindsey Wilson retaliated with a solo run in the second inning, but it was not enough to cut effectively into the Lady Tigers' lead. Both teams were silent in the third inning, but Campbellsville found their spark again in the bottom of the fourth. When Windell stepped to the plate, Pitcock and Blades stood on first and second base. Windell scored both of her teammates when she tripled down the right-field line. Although Carter grounded out in the next at-bat, she solidified an RBI as Windell ran in.
The Blue Raiders accumulated another run in their final attempt to defeat the Lady Tigers; however, they were unsuccessful, and Campbellsville earned the 7-2 win. Without leading hitter Lexi Miller, Pitcock and Windell both stepped up with two hits and two RBI's each. Katy Chadwell pitched the entire game throwing a total of 114 pitches, 79 of those strikes (.693). Lindsey Wilson tallied five hits but only two RBI's, coming short in the conversion attempts compared to Campbellsville with eight total hits and seven runs.
The Lady Tigers will continue their trek in the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament, taking on the #3 Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions on Friday, May 5th at 12 p.m. ET.
