COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lady Tigers, victorious in five of their last seven games, sought to continue to continue their winning play against the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson Saturday. Their offense was dynamite in the first game, but faltered in the second with Campbellsville splitting the afternoon.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 9, Lindsey Wilson 4
Campbellsville saw an
Emily Reynolds double in the first inning, but no runs came of it. Starting pitcher
Katy Chadwell anchored a defense that kept Lindsey Wilson from getting anything going either.
In the second the team caught fire though.
Morgan Carter got things going with a single. After
Keely Bowling was hit by a pitch, Camile Conkright sacrificed to push Carter and Bowling another base.
Kaeleigh Tuck scored both Lady Tigers on with her double. A
Jessie Daniels triple sent Tuck home and then scored herself from a Lindsey Wilson error.
The scoring in the second frame didn't stop there either.
Lindsey Mitchell smacked a single to bring in
Caroline Pitcock and
Emily Reynolds (both on via error). It was a whopping six runs for Campbellsville two innings in. The Lady Tigers' defense held, allowing just one hit in retaliation.
In the third, Conkright nuked a ball for the first home run of her career, bringing the Campbellsville lead to 7-0. Lindsey Wilson finally got on the board with a single run in their share of the frame. For the fourth inning, following a Reynolds single, the Lady Tigers were aided by a Blue Raider error and a wild pitch, allowing Bowling's double to bring a run home
After three ground outs, Campbellsville was unable to add to their 9-1 advantage. However, Lindsey Wilson tripled their runs to three behind two hits and an error. Avoiding a run rule, the game headed into the sixth inning where the Lady Tigers couldn't put any offensive action in motion.
Ellie Coley stepped to the mound in the bottom of the sixth. She allowed a run, the Blue Raiders inching closer to the Lady Tigers at 9-4. In the final frame, Campbellsville notched a single hit and looked to hold off any additional Lindsey Wilson advance. Coley struck out the leadoff batter, but the subsequent swinger smacked a double. Despite full bases, all were left on and the Lady Tigers closed out the first game.
Both Reynolds and Conkright had a team-high two hits with seven Campbellsville players logging at least one. Chadwell had seven strikeouts while Coley sent two batters back in to the dugout with her pitches.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 3, Lindsey Wilson 7
The Lady Tigers started the second contest slow with a three up, three down chance at bat to begin. The Blue Raiders were able to get a couple runners on base in their turn off just a single hit, but nothing come of it.
It was again three up, three down for Campbellsville in the second frame, but that same affliction struck Lindsey Wilson in the bottom of the inning. Conkright got the first hit for the Lady Tigers in the top of the second, but it was three straight outs after her. The only hit the Blue Raiders were able to muster in the frame happened to be a home run, so they took the lead, 1-0.
Campbellsville continued to struggle into the fourth yet again putting up three batters just to see them sat down, but then Lindsey Wilson suffered the same fate. The Lady Tigers were unable to shake the same thing happening again with their three at-bats failing to get on base. The Blue Raiders got a single and then connected for their second homer of the game to stretch their advantage. Another single was knocked, and the lead was 4-0 for the Blue Raiders before two more runs came across from a Lady Tiger error.
In the top of the sixth, Campbellsville's offense couldn't break free and get a hit into play.
Allison Bush entered for Patterson with the defensive switch. Lindsey Wilson managed a double and scored after a ground out pushed her home. Headed into the final inning, the Lady Tigers were down 7-0. Pitcock landed Campbellsville's second hit of the contest with her leadoff double. With one out following
Morgan Carter's reach on an error,
Keely Bowling sent a ball over the fence. Still behind 7-3 though, the game concluded.
The Lady Tigers will battle the Blue Raiders again Sunday, March 24
th beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Game two will follow.
