MCKENZIE, TN – Campbellsville began the Easter Break with two wins on Good Friday, 4-0 in the first game and 9-6 in the second game, to extend the win streak to four.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 4, Bethel 0
Lady Tigers headed into the first game after sweeping Asbury earlier in the week. The first three innings presented a pitchers dual before Campbellsville broke out the hits with a bases-loaded opportunity in the top of the fourth inning.
Lindsey Mitchell was first to reach base while,
Morgan Carter and
Keely Bowling were next. Lady Tigers were unable to score in the inning with a line out in the infield to end the inning.
Katy Chadwell was able to pick the momentum back up in the bottom of the fourth inning with a 1-2-3 inning.
After having two home runs in the games against Asbury,
Jessie Daniels reached base for the first time with a single in the top of the fifth inning. Daniels put herself in scoring position after stealing second, which set up a
Caroline Pitcock RBI double to bring in Daniels to gain the early 1-0 lead.
Mitchell gave Campbellsville another two-out RBI double in the fifth inning, scoring Pitcock to make it 2-0. Chadwell was able to get another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fifth to head into the sixth inning with the 2-0 lead intact.
At the top of the sixth,
Taylor Windell reached base for the second time on the day with a two-out single. Windell would score off the third two-out RBI double of the day for Campbellsville from Daniels to make it 3-0.
Top of the seventh, Pitcock had her second double of the afternoon and third hit for the day. Mitchell scored Pitcock with an RBI single to make the score 4-0.
Campbellsville finished the first game with nine hits compared to Bethel's two. The Wildcats had four errors in game one, and the Lady Tigers had zero. Chadwell had four strikeouts in the circle.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 9, Bethel 6
Carter got the first hit of the game for the Lady Tigers to begin the second game in the top of the second. Campbellsville had two runners on and one out, and Bowling reached base on an error. Through the first two innings, Campbellsville had one hit, and Bethel had one error at the top of the second.
The Wildcats scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second, with Madison Carey reaching base off a single and Hailey Cooner bringing in Carey on a RBI double, making the score 1-0.
Lady Tigers responded in the top of the third, Windell and
Emily Reynolds reaching base with one out. Pitcock scored Windell from second and advanced Reynolds to third for an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1.
Carter had a deep two-run RBI single to regain the lead at 3-1 in the third. Bethel responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the third after a sac fly to center field by Maria Murdaugh, making it 3-2 in favor of Campbellsville.
Windell broke open the lead at the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run and extended the lead to 5-2. Reynolds added the team's second two-run home run of the inning to make the lead 7-2.
In the top of the sixth inning, Mitchell had an RBI single, which scored Reynolds from third after she stole second and went to third on a sac fly from Pitcock, making the score 8-2.
The Wildcats responded with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth when Hailey Cooner hit a fly ball to center field and scored Murdaugh, making it 8-3. Bethel would score two more runs in the sixth from a two-run RBI single from Briley Auvenshine to close the gap at 8-5.
Windell was able to score another two-out RBI double in the top of the seventh, scoring Kaleigh Tuck from second base, extending the lead back to four runs at 9-5.
Lady Tigers went on to win the second game 9-6.
Courtney Patterson pitched 5.2 innings and finished with five strikeouts.
Ellie Coley pitched 1.1 innings and finished with one strikeout.
Campbellsville will look to keep the momentum going when they finish off the series against the Wildcats on Saturday, March 30th, for a 1 p.m. ET first pitch.
