Lady Tigers split again, see conference postseason run conclude against Blue Raiders

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Campbellsville kept playing in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Friday despite consistent inclement weather affecting the area. The Lady Tigers, in the consolation bracket, battled the rival Tigers of Georgetown College (13-22, 9-14 MSC) before defeating them via run rule and facing off against Highway 55 rival Lindsey Wilson College (23-23, 9-15 MSC). The Blue Raiders bested the Lady Tigers, 3-2.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 10, Georgetown 2
During the regular season, in Georgetown, the Lady Tigers took the series 3-1. In two of those match-ups, Campbellsville blanked the opposing Tigers.

The Lady Tigers mimicked that defensive effort when they forced Georgetown into a three up, three down half inning to get things started. Then, both Caroline Pitcock's and Lindsey Mitchell's singles brought runners home to put Campbellsville up 2-0 after one.

The leadoff Georgetown batter connected for their first hit of the day, sending a ball to third base with her single. After a Katy Chadwell strikeout, two fielder's choices and a walk had the bases loaded. The rival Tigers singled back-to-back with each scoring a single run, knotting the score at 2's before the last out of the frame was recorded.

In response, Morgan Carter was walked before stealing second. Jessie Daniels got on base too via error and Emily Reynolds did too when she hit a ball to the shortstop who flipped it up to third base to get Carter back in the dugout. Pitcock notched another hit for the day when she smacked a double to left field, scoring Daniels. Into the third inning, the Lady Tigers held the opposing Tigers to just a single hit. When they got to the plate, Campbellsville collected three runs and two hits. The bases were loaded after a Kaeleigh Tuck bunt and, a couple of at-bats later, Daniels knocked a double that scored the three on base.

It was three up, three down for Georgetown and then the Lady Tigers decided to go ballistic. It began with four straight hits: Pitcock and Mitchell both singled, Bowling sent the lead runner in with her double, and Taylor Windell added a bookend single to score Mitchell. Carter and Camille Conkright joined in on the spree too with their singles and, six hits and four runs later, Campbellsville was on top enough to issue a run rule if the defense shut out the rival Tigers in the top of the fifth. They did just that with Emily Reynolds relieving Chadwell, allowing one hit before the game concluded, 10-2.

The Lady Tigers had a huge 1.135 on base plus slugging percentage (OPS), nearly doubling the opposing Tigers' .606. Pitcock had three hits in the game and Mitchell (right behind her in the three hole) had two.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 3, Lindsey Wilson 2
Campbellsville had their hands full with Lindsey Wilson in their regular-season series, splitting 2-2. The Lady Tigers won the first game each day while the Blue Raiders nabbed the second.

Lindsey Wilson scored in the first inning off two hits. Daniels led off with a single, but, besides being on the beneficial end of an error, Campbellsville couldn't get any other offense going. Down 1-0, the Lady Tigers forced three straight batters back into the dugout, fielding all three balls in-play to quick outs. In their turn at bat, Campbellsville faced two outs straight away. However, Carter then singled through the infield and Conkright followed up with a double. With runners in scoring position, the Lady Tigers were unable to convert.

Campbellsville forced their second three up, three down of the game in the top of the third. On offense, Pitcock got her first hit singling to left field and, with two outs on the board, Bowling grabbed herself a single too, pushing Pitcock along to second. Unfortunately, the third out would come and strand both. Ellie Coley entered for the Lady Tigers in the top of the fourth, relieving starter Courtney Patterson. Lindsey Wilson put another run on the board due to an error and then added to it with a single to make things 3-0 for the Blue Raiders. With their chance to cut into the advantage, Carter repeated a single from her previous at-bat and Conkright did the same with her double. Daniels' subsequent sacrifice fly got Campbellsville their first run on the board.

In the fifth frame, Chadwell came in and, though Lindsey Wilson notched a hit, nothing came of it. Pitcock, leading off for Campbellsville, homered to get things going for the offense in the bottom of the inning. Trailing just one run, Bowling singled, but the Lady Tigers couldn't tie things up. The same story repeated for the Blue Raiders in the sixth, getting one fruitless hit. With their at-bat, Campbellsville pushed a walked batter (Carter with Callie Webb in as her pinch runner) with a sacrifice bunt, but the next Lady Tiger at the plate hit a pop fly that was caught. Additionally, Webb, trying to make it to third, was ousted.

For the deciding inning and with two outs in their initial two batters at the plate, Lindsey Wilson came up with two singles, but a pop up sent their fielders out to face Campbellsville's final offensive effort. Despite a Pitcock hit, the Lady Tigers' conference postseason run ended in defeat, 3-2.

Pitcock paced the squad with her three hits and three other Lady Tigers (Bowling, Carter, and Conkright) had two hits each. The three Campbellsville pitchers combined for four strikeouts.
